Common Questions

How long will it take to stop the pain?

Every case is different but we can confidently say that 85% of our patients report decreased pain, or no pain within the first week of treatment.  While with others it may take a few weeks - we are ready for the challenge.  Long term, permanent resolution of endometriosis symptoms generally takes 5-9 months, at which point you do not need more treatment, and you can move on with a better, happier version of yourself.

Why haven't I ever heard acupuncture helps endometriosis?

Although Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a 3000+ year old medicine it is relatively new in the States.  The scientific model of Western Medicine is about 200 years old.  The two modalities are very different approaches to treating the human body and you will find Acupuncture and TCM to be a very enlightening process.  Chinese Medicine is an empowering humanistic approach that helps you to understand how to take care of your body, and prevent sickness throughout your life.

How long is the treatment, will I have to come in long term?

The vast majority of patients don’t need long-term maintenance. Once their condition is resolved, it stays that way, as long as the patient commits to the lifestyle changes they used during treatment.  During your consultation we can tell you the general length of your unique treatment plan.  After you have reached your health goals we taper the treatment until you graduate and discontinue our work together. However, many of our patients continue to use our clinic as their homebase for medical care, as we also treat every health concern, we are well rounded in that way.

Will I have to spend a lot of time coming in for treatments?

Most of our patients are able to get great results with once-weekly visits.

Can acupuncture REALLY help my endometriosis?

Absolutely.  Your hormonal system – and your body as a whole – is capable of healing itself, especially when it has the nutritional support and specialized natural therapies we offer to help it get back on track. Together we figure out what caused your body to have the disharmony in the first place, and work from there.  We help change women's lives every day - it's the best!

How can I be treated if I don't live in Phoenix?

Glad you asked! The only missing component compared to an in person treatment is the needles themselves. Needling is only a small part of our process.  Over video, you will receive counseling on diet, lifestyle, nutritional supplements, tongue diagnosis, acupressure techniques, and meditations.  Medicinal herbs are prescribed, and mailed directly to you.  Our pure and medicinal herbs are the most powerful part of endometriosis treatment.

"My endometriosis pain stopped during my first week of herbal medicine prescribed by Dr. Rebecca's care. That in combination with her diet advice, I have been pain free for over a year! I had suffered painful periods since they began. I tried multiple types of birth control, had two surgeries by age 20. I was about to be put into early menopause by my physician as the pain was continuing every day. "

How It Works..

We address the root cause. This is classic lingo for us Acupuncturists. We treat the CAUSE and the symptoms, or the "root and branch."  The reason you suffer with any or many of these conditions are specific and different for each person. Digestion, sleep and emotional issues are huge factors that may be contributing to your reproductive pathologies.  During the initial consultation we listen to your story and let you know how it works and answer all of your questions.  We then create a treatment plan that we both agree on, and commit to healing your body, spirit and mind together. We are with you every step of the way.

We use an all natural approach your physician doesn’t know about. Your physician may have told you that surgery or oral contraception are the ONLY answers or that you simply have to live with your endometriosis symptoms.  BUT, that doesn’t mean there’s no other options- it just means your doctor has run out of ideas or there aren’t conventional treatments available. We find that people who don’t respond well to conventional treatment often respond very well to acupuncture in combination with our herbal teas. We are each state licensed and nationally certified by NCCAOM to tailor Chinese Herbal Medicine that restores your organs, glands, and aids your bodies ability to manufacture, renew and circulate. Our clinic is perfect for women looking to heal their body for the long term with natural medicine.

We help you awaken your bodies natural healing system Despite what you may have been led to believe, your body is not “broken” and it IS possible to take control of your hormones and resolve endometriosis naturally. That’s because your body never forgets how to heal itself. It just needs the right support. Your body makes its own internal medicines to fix endometriosis on its own, and our therapies help it do just that- making the "impossible", possible.

Below you will find answers to commonly asked questions. We will give you a break down of classic Chinese Medicine Diagnosis of how we see and treat these conditions with acupuncture, diet, and herbal medicine.

"Rebecca is amazing! I've struggled with pain management from endo for as long as I can remember and have tried almost everything in the book to get relief, including numerous surgeries. After just a few short months of working with her, she has helped me to get a point where I am almost pain free, which I never thought would be possible! She is dedicated to helping me get my pain and other health challenges under control and I can tell she is very passionate about what she does. I recommend everyone to go see her!"

Chinese medicine diagnosis and differentiation of Endometriosis

Chinese medicine doctors cannot, according to the logic of our system, cure endometriosis. But we do treat and cure all the signs and symptoms of endometriosis. Like we stated above the only way we could say we cure endometriosis specifically is if we asked our patients to get a surgery to see if the endometriosis lesions were still there, and of course that is not something any of us would ever suggest.

Western medicine cannot explain why endometriosis occurs, there are theories, but none are conclusive. Some say there is retrograde bleeding where the uterine lining goes up and out of the uterus through the fallopian tubes. Or blame hormonal regulation, thus the attempts to control endometriosis with many variations of birth control.  All conclusions are on a cellular and biochemical level about which a patient can't do anything for themselves to fix the problem. Whereas Chinese Medicine theory regarding the disease pathologies of endometriosis make logical sense, and are also empowering from a human point of view. There are everyday factors that lead to this disease, meaning there are many things a woman can do to rectify her situation.

At Oasis Women's Clinic we stay within our scope of practice and diagnose within that scope. There are four diagnoses that pertain to endometriosis and those are: Qi congestion and blood stagnation, accumulation of cold causing blood stagnation, heat congestion with blood stagnation, and qi and blood deficiency with stagnation.

The most common cause of qi stagnation is stress. Qi stagnation leads to blood stagnation which can cause pain in the lower abdomen, and infertility. Qi also stagnates due to overeating, blood deficiency, stagnant blood due to trauma (such as surgery,) and what we call "dampness" which is simply sticky turbid and thick fluids congealing and slowing the qi dynamic.

Accumulation of cold is like winter freezing the river, slowing circulation in the body, by way of eating cold foods and/or subjecting yourself to a cold environment without proper clothing. Overeating cold raw foods slowly impedes upon our ability to warm the body and the uterus, causing pain, fibroids, spotting among other things. Or working to the point of fatigue in the cold weather along with a poor diet. Our uterus is particularly susceptible to cold invasion when it is menstruating and is the most important time to avoid cold foods, cold feet, and cold weather or ice plunges.

Heat can also cause stagnant blood. The periods tend to be rusty in color, scanty, painful and full of clots. Usually with premenstrual spotting or spotting during ovulation. This heat is a pathology that typically long standing and comes and goes along with the woman's stress and diet ebbing and flowing in and out of appropriateness for them at the time.

Lastly qi and blood deficiency leading to stagnation. In this situation the ability to circulate blood is weak. Usually caused by persistent worry and excessive fatigue caused by "spleen deficiency" and dampness (the thick fluids slowing and mucking up our qi dynamic and flow.) Dizziness, hemorrhoids, intestinal cramping and diarrhea are common symptoms. Menstruation is very exhausting to these women as they do not have enough resources to lose that amount of blood whether it is a little or a lot.

Prevention

It is suggested to avoid cold and raw foods prior and during your period. Meaning salads, smoothies, raw fruits, and cold drinks. Also to avoid sex during menstruation as this can lead to dysmenorrhea, and congelated lumps in the pelvis. Also avoid strong and vigorous exercise during menstruation to prevent the the menstruate from diverting from it's path and escaping elsewhere.  Maintain regular sleeping hours, avoid spicy foods and try to be happy, as sad and angry emotions can divert and obstruct qi flow.
